Wars of Scottish Independence; in the Battle of Stirling Bridge the Scottish won a major victory over the English despite being outnumbered; Wallace was turned over to English soldiers at Robroyston by a Scottish knight loyal to Edward I (1239-1307); he was hanged, drawn and quartered in London's Smithfield Market;
