Edward VI (1537-53) was the son of Henry VIII (1491-1547) and Jane Seymour (1507-37); his uncle Edward Seymour (1506-52) 1st Duke of Somerset led the council through which the young kings reign was mediated; the Duke escorted the young King to Windsor to escape the nobles so desperate to remove him, for this he was arrested;
