N'oubliez pas Oran; after France was invaded by the Nazis, Winston Churchill ordered that the French Navy join forces with the British Navy or be neutralised to prevent attacks against Britain; a lack of trust in the Free France's ability to save its fleet from Nazis and failing negotiations pushed Britain to attack and destroy the fleet stationed at Mers-el-Kebir, the most powerful concentration of French warships at the time; most of the fleet was annihilated;
