The Battle of Mobile Bay (5th August,1864) was an engagement of the American Civil War in which Rear Admiral David G. Farragut (1801-1870) of the Union Navy, with his flag on USS Mobile, defeated the Confederate fleet and gained control of Mobile Bay, an inlet in the Gulf of Mexico, in the state of Alabama; the Confederate ironclad CSS Tennessee was the last Confederate vessel to surrender;
