unfinished oil portrait depicting William Palmer (1740-1816) with his second wife, Faiz Baksh (d.1828), a Mughal princess, seated on his right with their three children, William, Mary and Hastings and three ayahs; possibly the standing lady to the right is the sister of Faiz; Palmer was an army officer in the East India Company and aide-de-camp to Warren Hastings; the portrait of the family shows a union between English and Indian families in the period before the establishment of the British Empire in India; portrait has also been attributed to Francesco Renaldi; Raj;
