About

The exiled French Emperor Napoleon III (1808-73) settled in Chislehurst after the end of the Second Empire in France; his son Eugene-Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (1856-79) died fighting the Zulus in South Africa and his mother Empress Eugenie (1826-1920) built the chapel in commemoration of her son and husband; their remains were later moved to Farnborough, Hampshire;
