the Foundling hospital was founded by Captain Thomas Coram (c.1668-1751) in 1739 as a home for deserted children; image shows a queue of women outside with their babies, ready to hand them over to the hospital; a statue of Fortune stands outside the gate and a statue of Charity stands inside; Edward Rooker (1724-74);
