Beginning on the right at the top, there is the dark blue Coleotrype natalensis, C. B. Clarke, a purplish red Balsam (Impatiens, sp. having a long slender spur), clusters of the small white flowers of the "White Pear" (Apodytes dimidiata, B. Mey.) the red and black seed-vessels of which lie at the foot of the basket on the right; and a Loranthus with reddish flowers, which open with elasticity jerking out the stamens and the long, coiled, watch-spring-like style, which terminates the future seed-vessel. In the centre is a white Pavetta, and immediately over it the purple-red flowers of Vigna vexillata, Benth., and a solitary flower of the yellow Sphedamnocarpus pruriens, Planch. Returning to the right, the two pale orange flowers and narrow tendrilled leaves are those of Littsonia mnodesta, Hook., a singular Liliacea, followed by the more showy deeper orange Grocosmna aurea, Planch. ; a large Hibiscus with purple centre, the purplish Grewia lasiocarpa, E. Mey. and an Ipomoea below. Lying in front is a branch of Acridocarpus natalitius, Juss. bearing flowers and large winged seed- vessels. Panel 118.
