Celia Pearson Prints, Posters & Canvas Art

Biography

Celia Pearson's journey as a photographer began by chance and serendipity. When Pearson was barely twenty she took a class on a whim taught by photographer and well respected teacher Richard Bond in Annapolis. She says, "I will never forget his first lecture. I was captivated, and I never looked back."

Since 1979 Pearson has owned her own business, Pearson Photography. Her role as an assignment photographer has enhanced her fine art career. Over the years she has become a seasoned professional with a finely tuned eye for detail and extensive technical problem-solving experience. Pearson's fine art photographs are sold in galleries in Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, DC. Framed photographs from print sizes of 3"x3" to 30"x30" sell for $450-$1,800.

A native of Maryland, Celia Pearson spent her childhood summers on the coast of Maine. Her connection to the shore is apparent in the recurring studies of its treasures that appear in her large body of fine art photographs. When Richard LaMotte asked Pearson to photograph the book Pure SEA GLASS, she was intrigued by the notion of exploring his family's extensive collection with her camera. Turned loose with a box full of their best "finds", she became captivated by the luminous qualities of the glass.

In a segment featuring Pearson's body of work, Maryland Public Television's host described the artist's "innate ability to find the essence of an object that resonates with beauty". Pearson says, "As I focus on my subjects, I am paying attention to their physical qualities, the light that informs them, the relationships between various elements. But there is something more that attracts me - something that's energetic, unseen and compelling." Regarding the sea glass images, she adds, "These vestiges of mankind transformed by nature seem to be full of echoes, memory, and spirit."

In mid-career Pearson was the recipient of an honorary YWCA TWIN Award (Tribute to Women and Industry) and she is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers.

From 2000-2003 Pearson was a Board Member and Fundraising Chair for the Maryland Federation of Art, an arts organization in Annapolis, MD dedicated to encouraging both emerging and established artists and supporting art in the community.

Pearson's commitment to assignment and fine art photography has spanned over 25 years. Well known for her assignment photographs of interiors, architecture, and gardens, her work has appeared in many magazines, including Coastal Living, Cottage Living,, Metropolitan Home and Southern Accents. Other book credits in addition to Pure SEA GLASS include photographer for the large format book Wayne L. Good, Architect: Elegance, Tradition, Repose. The artist is represented by galleries in Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, DC, and her fine art photographs are in many private collections.
