Pauline Baynes Prints, Posters & Canvas Art

Biography

At the age of 27 Pauline Baynes was producing illustrations for J.J.Tolkien. He in turn recommended her to his friend, C.S.Lewis. The seven chronicles of C.S. Lewis's Christian allegory about a magic kingdom of talking animals (The Narnia Chronicles) have sold more than 100 million copies. Pauline Baynes exquisite illustrations still grace the books nearly half a century after The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was first published in 1950. Baynes is now revered worldwide by sword-and-sorcery fans, who track her down via the Internet. "I'm the only person left alive who was attached to C.S. Lewis and Tolkien" she says. "I'm seen as the remnant who touched their garments".
