Product details Pinks on the shore
Pinks on the shore
On the right, an abaft-the-beam, nearly port-quarter view of a pink with her mainsail set, aground close inshore. Men are bringing nets ashore and taking out a grapnel anchor. On the left is another pink in bow view with her mainsail set, with a promontory beyond. Planks and a beach roller lie in the left foreground. One of five pen and ink drawings of shore scenes (PAF6745, PAG6173, PAF6746 and PAG6174) presumably made by the Elder in preparation for pen-paintings (grisailles), but not identified with certainty. At an earlier date they would have been identified as by Simon de Vlieger, but are cruder than drawings convincingly signed by him (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam 4633, 4634).
