Willem Van de Velde the Younger

This depiction of the 'Beurs van Amsterdam' shows the vessel from the starboard broadside. There are drying sails and courses loosed. The ship's fore and main yards are lowered to half-mast and a driver is half hoisted. There is also a flag at the main. On the back is an enlarged drawing of the upper-works. There is in addition a fainter drawing from just before the starboard beam.

The offset is inscribed on the back, 'de beurs van amsterdam... [cut] / kompani van amsterdam' (the 'Beurs van Amsterdam' [belonging to the East India] company of Amsterdam).

The work is signed 'W.V.V.J' in the lower left-hand corner.
