'Priest's house, Hirado' [Japan]

A view on Hirado island, along the flank of a Japanese house on the right, towards another which has the screen doors to its verandah open showing the simple interior. A figure in red appears to be sitting on the tatami-matted floor inside, where dividing screens have paper window sections to let in light, which falls from the right, casting the shadow of the house on the right across the front of the priest's. This has a bench or table outside between two small trees on the left and there is a pool in the foreground. Further trees close the view behind.
