In their search for Sita, who has been kidnapped by the demon Ravana, the monkey army meet a wingless vulture Sampati, who has lost his wings by flying too close to the sun. Sampati's wings grow again in accordance with the prophecy that they would once he had rendered a service to the world, by telling the monkeys where Sita is. Image taken from Ramayana, Kishkindha Kanda. This copy of the Ramayana was commissioned by Rana Jagat Singh of Mewar in Rajashan between 1649 and 1653.
