The batsman of the future
This picture of a young boy playing cricket in lush rural setting was created by British artist James Hayllar, and was published in the newspaper The Graphic in summer 1886. Hayllar, a landscape and portrait painter and contemporary of Millais and Rossetti, was best known for his paintings of children.
