Alfred Neubauer behind the wheel of a 2-litre Daimler, Targa Florio, 1924. Neubauer finished the race, consisting of four 108-kilometre laps of a Sicilian road circuit, in 16th place. In 1926, he took over as manager of the Mercedes-Benz racing team, bringing in many innovative practices and presiding over its many successes until 1955. The company pulled out of racing in 1955 after one of their cars was involved in a disastrous crash at Le Mans, and Neubauer retired shortly afterwards.
