'An Inside View of the Rotunda in Ranelagh Gardens', 1899. The Rotunda in Ranelagh Gardens, Chelsea, was erected as a public venue for indoor entertainments of various kinds in 1741 and closed in 1803. Fashionable people went there to see and be seen. Musical concerts were held and Mozart performed there in 1764. The central support housed a chimney and fireplaces for use in winter.
