A 1928 Bean Short 14 with a 1926 Eccles Caravan
A 1928 Bean Short 14 with a 1926 Eccles Caravan. This example was made during Bean's penultimate season. Bean were among the many firms who tried to challenge Austin and Morris as mass-producers in the 1920s. The saloon body is typical of the heavy type of coachwork offered before pressed steel construction became the norm. The first trailer caravan ever to appear at a motor show came in 1920. The Eccles Company pioneered caravans in Britain and did much to popularise this new form of leisure. All interiors and furniture were French polished by hand.
