Keke Rosberg at the British Grand Prix, Brands Hatch, Kent, 1982
Keke Rosberg at the British Grand Prix, Brands Hatch, Kent, 1982. Although he had shown considerable talent in the lower echelons of motor racing, Rosberg took a long time to register success in Formula 1, being hampered by uncompetitive cars in his first four seasons. However, when Alan Jones retired in 1981, Rosberg was chosen to be his replacement with the Williams team. He only achieved one victory for them in 1982, in France, but his consistent performances gained him sufficient points to win the World Championship. He drove for Williams until the end of the 1985 season, winning four more Grands Prix, before switching to McLaren for his last campaign in 1986. A colourful personality, Rosberg was best known for his ability to win races in particularly difficult conditions, as on a drying track at Monaco in 1983, and in extreme heat at Dallas the following year.
