Monument to Alexander II in the Moscow Kremlin, Russia, c1904-c1905. Known as 'The Liberator' for his emancipation of the serfs in 1861, Alexander (1818-1881) was assassinated in St Petersburg by a bomb thrown by a member of a revolutionary group known as Narodnaya Volya (People's Will). The monument was erected in 1898 but was destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1918. A new monument to Alexander was built in 2005. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
