Franklin's party encountered the Stone Indian tribe in January 1820, on their journey from Hudson Bay to the Great Slave Lake. John Franklin's expedition of 1819-22 travelled via the Coppermine River to map the Canadian Arctic coast, as part of efforts to find the fabled North-West Passage.
