Half length studio portrait of Andrew Ainslie Common, half-turned and looking to the left as viewed, his left hand in his pocket. Printed below the image: "MAULL & FOX, 187A PICCADILLY, LONDON." The reverse has various inscriptions including a series of printed coats of arms with the inscription: "MAULL & FOX PHOTOGRAPHERS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY Portrait and Miniature Painters, 187A, PICCADILLY LONDON. Marion Imp. Paris." Below, the negative number: "178994c". Andrew Ainslie Common was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1885.
