Oval head and shoulders portrait of T H Huxley, full face looking directly to camera. Paper label verso, inscribed in ink: "WET-PLATE PHOTOGRAPH OF PROFESSOR HUXLEY TAKEN IN 1877." Thomas Henry Huxley was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1851. He served as President of the Royal Society 1883-1885.
