Half-length portrait of Weldon, seated on a wooden armchair with green leather armrests. The sitter is bearded and wears a black jacket and waistcoat, white shirt and yellow tie. His left hand, resting on the arm of the chair, has a double-banded gold signet ring on the little finger. The right hand holds a book, the place kept by Weldon's index finger. Walter Weldon was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1882.
