Full-length studio portrait of William Bowman standing and turned to the right as viewed. Bowman leans with his right elbow on an ornately-carved wooden and holds a book in his left hand. A small table with an integral lectern is positioned in front of him. Printed below the image: "MAULL & POLYBLANK, LONDON." The reverse has various inscriptions. Printed: "MAULL & POLYBLANK, Photographers, 55 GRACECHURCH STREET, and 187a, PICCADILLY LONDON." Sir William Bowman was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1841.
