Stone Buddha, a relic of the past glory of Anuradhapura, Ceylon, c1924. The city of Anuradhapura was one of the earliest urban sites in Sri Lanka. It was the capital of the country from the 5th century BC until 1017 and was an important religious centre from the time that Buddhism spread to Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC.
