Henry Shaw

John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, presenting his book to Queen Margaret, c1445, (1843). John Talbot presents Margaret of Anjou with an illuminated book (The Shrewsbury Book), which he had had made for her. The book was written in French for her instruction and entertainment, that she might not forget her native tongue. The contents consist chiefly of romances of Chivalrie. Margaret sits beside her husband, King Henry VI. Illustration from Dresses and Decorations of the Middle Ages from the Seventh to the Seventeenth Centuries, by Henry Shaw, (London, 1843).
