The English wait for the French at the Battle of Crecy
The English wait for the French at the Battle of Crecy, France 1346 (1864). The English army lay down on the ground to rest whilst waiting for the French troops at Crecy. Dividing his force into three divisions Edward III (1312-1377) of England took station by a windmill to survey the whole field. One of the defining battles of the Hundred Years War, Crecy was a victory for the English over a much larger French army, brought about largely by the impact of the English longbowmen.
