The Last Respects to the Remains of the Counts Egmont and Hoorn, 1863
'The Last Respects to the Remains of the Counts Egmont and Hoorn', 1863. Lamoral, Count of Egmont (1522-1568) and Philip of Montmorency, Count Hoorn (1518-1568), were two popular Dutch Protestant leaders who were publicly beheaded by the Spanish rulers of the Netherlands in Brussels on 5 June 1568. Their execution was one of the catalysts that sparked the revolution that brought about the independence of the Netherlands.
