The Monomakhs Cap, before 1884
The Monomakh's Cap, before 1884. The Monomakh's Cap was the crown of all Muscovite Grand Princes and Tsars from Dmitri Donskoi to Peter the Great, who replaced it with the Imperial Crown of Russia in 1721. A skullcap decorated with precious stones and pearls and trimmed with sable, it dates from the early 14th century. The cross was added in the 15th or 16th century. Today it is on display in the Kremlin Armoury. Found in the collection of the State United Museum Centre in the Kremlin, Moscow.
