Signed and dated on the print, below the thumb: 'Salisbury May 1.96'. With a paper label verso, stamped: 'FROM MR.SWINTONS PHOTOGRAPHIC LABORATORY, 66, VICTORIA STREET, S.W.'. Annotated in ink below this 'neg. no.1a.' Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1869 and served as a Vice-President 1882-1883 and 1893-1894.
