Product details Three specimens of turtles

Three specimens of turtles

Friedrich Wilhelm Wunder

Zoological studies of three varieties of marine turtles, apparently hatchlings, each viewed from above. Figure 1 'Testudo imbricata' [Hawksbill turtle Eretmochelys imbricate]. Figure 2 'Testudo mydas' [Green sea turtle Chelonia mydas]. Figure 3 'Testudo caretta' [Loggerhead turtle Caretta caretta]. Plate 17 from the book Historia testudinum iconibus illustrata by Johann David Schoepff (Erlangen, 1792). The illustrations are numbered on the plate. Inscribed below: 'Fig.1. Testudo imbricata Linn. Fig. 2 Testudo Mydas Linn.' The plate has been trimmed for binding, resulting in the loss of artist information.

Original: lithograph . 1792
